New
Beginnings is a state-approved day school program for children with
Autism and similar developmental disabilities, including Asperger’s
Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Children eligible for
the program are at-risk, behaviorally disordered 3 - 14 year olds who
require intensive support and developmental training and services, but
who are not eligible for residential or hospital programs. For those
children who need them, applied behavioral analysis and discreet trial
training are fundamental aspects of the program. Other, more socially
oriented teaching methods are emphasized, according to the needs of
the child. Depending on each child’s readiness, his or her individualized
program focuses on one or more of the following: self-care, social development,
learning readiness and cognitive development. Adaptive physical education
and arts & crafts are included as regular parts of the curriculum
for all children. For more information on “New Beginnings”
or any of their other programs, contact Lisa DeFlora, Principal, at
(973)882-8822.
