Founded in 1980, The Craig School is an independent, co-ed, non-profit school for students in grades 3 through 12 with diagnosed learning differences or difficulty succeeding in the traditional classroom. The school occupies two campuses, grades 3 through 8 in Mountain Lakes, and grades 9 through 12 in Lincoln Park. Students of average to above average ability come to us with such learning issues as dyslexia, auditory processing problems, and/or attention deficit disorder. The Craig School offers specialized instruction in a small, departmentalized setting with generally no more than eight students in a group. The school’s superb educational program improves reading comprehension and fluency, develops strong writing skills and reinforces math competency in preparation for college. Successful, research-based methods are used to strengthen organizational and study skills. A social skills curriculum helps the student build a positive self-image within a safe environment with caring teachers and strong ties to parents. State-of-the-art computer technology is integrated into the academic curriculum at all grade levels. Craig offers a rich program of visual and performing arts, athletics, diversified student activities and social opportunities. A summer program held in July helps maintain academic skills. The Craig School is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the International Dyslexia Association and the Learning Disabilities Association.
