The Learning Miracle specializes in SAT preparation, but
also offers programs for the ACT, most Regents exams and many
academic subjects. Private tutoring and small classes are
both available. The lessons emphasize logical problem-solving
techniques, but the whole range of test-taking gimmicks, tricks,
traps and shortcuts are presented as well. The Learning Miracle
was started by a Yale graduate who scored several 800s as
a teenager and numerous 800s as an adult, who asked himself
why these tests which seemed so difficult to most people seemed
rather easy to him. From that quandary, he developed a course
designed to show students how to approach and take the SAT
the successful way he does. Students learn to identify standard
question formats that appear on test after test, and to recognize
how the information contained in a question leads to the answer.
Students learn the best way to read passages on standardized
tests and how to avoid tedious mathematical calculations.
Students learn how using their imagination ironically hurts
them in reading and writing questions, but helps them in math
problems. Three things you will not see in a Learning Miracle
test prep class are: a list of vocabulary words to be memorized,
a three-hour lesson and a massive homework assignment. There
are flexible tutoring programs for French, English, Math and
World History, and for the SAT IIs, the PSAT, the ACT and
the ISEE.
