Established in 1996, The Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan is an educationally progressive Jewish day school with 160 children in grades k-8. The elementary division (k-5) boasts two full-time, bilingual teachers per class, giving students personalized attention and an outstanding general education— on par with the finest schools in New York City— woven together with a rich understanding of their Jewish heritage, a fluent command of the Hebrew language and a passion for Jewish learning. In the middle school (6-8), a team of core teachers in the humanities, sciences and Jewish studies, and an extensive advisory program ensure that students receive a high quality academic education and the personal attention that enable early adolescents to thrive. Schechter students find meaning in the world through confident, active and skilled learning that is grounded in both the rigorous pursuit of truth and in moral sensitivity. Graduates of the 8th grade continue on to the finest public and independent high schools, including Stuyvesant, LaGuardia, Heschel, Horace Mann and Trinity. Lower Elementary grades are located at the Park Avenue Synagogue; Upper Elementary grades and Middle School are housed in the West Side at the Society for the Advancement of Judaism.
