For 30 years, the JCC has provided the community with services for those with special needs. Its newly expanded program provides social opportunities for persons ages 5- adulthood with ADHD, autism spectrum disorders like Asperger’s Syndrome, learning disabilities, speech and language delays, emotionally handicapping conditions and other special needs. The JCC offers a sensitive and supportive environment to facilitate social and emotional reciprocity, enhance self-images, foster interpersonal relationships and develop individual interests through socialization experiences. The JCC follows a person-centered model that allows every child, teen and young adult to reach his or her fullest potential and accomplish individual goals. Programs include socialization classes, which incorporate music, art and additional therapies in the curriculum; enrichment classes; afterschool programs; inclusion opportunities and vacation programs. The JCC’s award-winning summer camp programs, include Camp Kehilla Day Camp and the Kehilla Vocational Experience. These programs provide children, teens and young adults with special needs an experience like no other. The JCC believes that every camper deserves friends, fun and laughter in an accepting environment. Please contact Sharon Denison, MSW, director of Special Needs Programming, at ext. 148 or sdenison@sjjcc.org for additional information and to set up an individual assessment.
