Pat-Kam School & Early Childhood Center for children in preschool through grade 5 is a private, non-sectarian school that fosters early literacy and education in reading, math, science computer skills and Spanish as a second language. Students engage in year-round academic and social learning, including educational field trips. Year-round field trips play an integral role in the cultural development of students. Some of the places frequently visited are: Westbury Music Fair, New York Hall of Science, Walt Whitman Museum, Cradle of Aviation, Green Meadows Farm and many more. Character education is also emphasized in the daily curriculum. There are also before-school and afterschool programs as well as a school holiday program. During the summer, additional activities enjoyed by students are: Scrabble games, chess, math challenge, Spanish bee, spelling bee, social dancing, story re-enactment (Little Theatre) and arts and crafts. Pat-Kam School is approved by New York State Education Department and The Office of Children and Family Services. The school was founded in 1986 by husband and wife Ron and Geraldine Clahar. Ron Clahar worked as a former director of nursing and had been a registered nurse for more than 20 years prior to that. He has been the principal of Pat-Kam School & Early Childhood Center since its inception. Prior to founding Pat-Kam School, he also founded Guiding Light Early Childhood Center.
