The Montessori School of New York is celebrating its 39th year of serving the Park Slope, Brooklyn; Rego Park, Queens; and the Sutton Place, Manhattan communities. From the tender, young age of 2½, children at the three schools work joyfully toward adapting and being in harmony with their environment in time and place. This is the main goal of Montessorians: children in harmony with themselves and therefore in harmony with the world. Children graduating from the school usually attend one of the specialized high schools in New York. To help prepare them for entrance tests, they experience a rigorous academic program. To calculate is a natural tendency of man. With this theory as a basis, math concepts are introduced from preschool so that children do excellently well in this area. Reading is also emphasized from the tender years so Montessori children read fluently with good interpretation, and develop a taste for literature as well as learn to do research in all areas of academia.
