Literacy Leap is a reading center that offers Tutoring and Early Childhood Programs. The new facility is the concept of Casey Wilson, MS, reading specialist. Mrs. Wilson has tutored and tested children as a member of the staff of St. John’s University reading clinic and specializes in multi-sensory instruction and dyslexia. The Early Childhood Program offers a fun, educational experience for toddlers ages 18 months-4 years, giving them a jump start in reading. Mrs. Wilson believes it is important for young children to listen to speech and related sounds and to develop words before learning to read. She is a true believer in her phonics-based program and has been very happy with the results. Proof of her method is her son, Michael, who spoke fluently at age 2 and began reading and spelling words before the age of 4. The Tutoring Program combines evaluation and remediation to treat students who are experiencing reading difficulties. Individuals in the tutoring program are tested for word recognition and decoding, vocabulary, oral reading, comprehension, spelling, and writing.
