The IDEAL School of Manhattan is a pre-k through 5th grade independent school that will expand to 8th grade by 2012. At The IDEAL School, which stands for Individualized, Differentiated Education for All Learners, teachers recognize that every child has unique abilities and interests. Instruction is tailored to each student’s learning style by creating an Individualized Learning Profile. Small classes, led by two highly qualified teachers, allow for more individualized attention, enrichment and support. Recognizing that every child has talent and that children learn by doing, teachers provide clear yet flexible guidelines through a rich, hands-on, child-centered curriculum. Through service learning, students develop self-esteem and respect for others in a diverse community of learners. By partnering with The Central Park Conservancy and The Museum of Natural History, The IDEAL School’s classrooms extend to the vibrant neighborhood that surrounds the school. A variety of elective programs are available, such as foreign languages, sign language, yoga, chess and musical theater, to stimulate each child’s multiple intelligences. The IDEAL School embraces diversity in children and their families and, thus, welcomes children of all abilities into its classrooms.
