Children of all ages will find the most exciting and comprehensive music and dance programs available at Montclair State University’s Preparatory Center for the Arts. Located in a fully modernized, state-of-the-art facility, the Preparatory Center’s faculty is made up of well-trained, professional artists. Beginning with students as young as 2 1/2, children are offered a wide variety of class, lesson and ensemble opportunities to choose from including beginning/intermediate string and woodwind ensembles, Jazz and Rock improvisation, performance workshops and master classes, group piano, harp, recorder and percussion classes and Eurythmics. Private lessons are also available for all instruments. Children who enjoy being part of a team can try out for the Youth Orchestra of Montclair and Montclair State University Children’s Choir. The Preparatory Center’s brand new dance division offers kids between the ages of 4 and 13 a unique program with a reputation for excellence! Students ages 4 and up can enjoy energetic classes in pre-ballet, creative dance and tap. Older kids ages 8 and up can try their hand at the center’s classes in classical ballet and modern dance and teens will get a kick out of the Jazz dance programs.
