Akin offers innovative programs for children 2 to 6 years old. Teachers follow the school's philosophy that each child is unique and special with differing rates of social, emotional, behavioral, physical and cognitive growth and development. When visiting this learning center, it is obvious that teachers work very hard in providing a loving, accepting environment where children are made to feel secure, happy and successful. Director Dottie Akin works diligently with her staff of eight to ensure that children have many activities and experiences that are geared to their individual needs. Akin offers a Nursery Program for twos and threes and a Pre-Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten Combination for fours and fives. Kindergarten Enrichment and Enrichment for all-day students is offered in the afternoon. All of these classes are geared to various ability levels rather than chronological age of the children. Akin encourages children to work at their own pace without pressure or competition so that children experience success rather than failure. The goal at Akin Learning Center is for graduates to leave with a positive self-image and a strong foundation for a future of school success. The facilities at Akin are housed in a school-type setting with classrooms that are cheerful, homey, warm and comfortable with materials and activities especially chosen for hands-on learning experiences. Center hours are 8am to 6pm.
