The 28th Annual QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning returns from July 23-25. This is the largest summertime hot air balloon and music festival in North America, featuring more than 125 hot air balloons from around the world. The extravaganza also boasts live concerts from top recording artists like the Beach Boys, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Peter Frampton and teen sensations the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato. Watch as modern and mythical worlds collide in an epic adventure when Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief arrives on Blu-ray and DVD. Put out by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the film follows Percy Jackson as he becomes the prime suspect when Zeus’s lightening bolt is stolen. The Community Theatre at the Mayo Center for the Performing Arts presents The Gizmo Guys on July 21, 10:30am. The Sussex Skyhawks 2010 season is underway, and that means great programming for kids. The official kids club of the league, Lil’ Hawks, invites children to join the action. Camp for a Day
The Museum of Early Trades and Crafts hosts eight unique one-day summer camps called Summer Camp for a Day. This gives kids ages 4-12 great seasonal fun without having to make a long-term commitment. For Lenape Toys and Games on July 7, 10am-2pm, campers tour the exhibit “Lenape: Tools and Daily Living” and learn how Lenape people lived, worked and played. Participants also get to play with a number of games and toys, and make some of their own to take home. The Bickford Summer Theatre Series for Children at the Bickford Theatre offers four family-friendly performances this month. On July 8, Choo Choo Charlie’s Magic Show features a blend of comedy and magic. On July 21, Buckaroo Bindlestiff’s Wild West Jamboree boasts juggling and lasso tricks. On July 22, Mammoth Follies explores the wonders of evolution in an old-fashioned revue of original songs, witty jokes and entertaining acts performed by giant dinosaur puppets.
