The Village School is the only Montessori school in northern New Jersey that offers Montessori education for students from 18 months to Middle School. It is accredited by both The Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools and the American Montessori Society. Based on the educational principles and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori, the curriculum reflects the belief that children’s development and learning are guided by their unique talents, interests and internal schedules. All classrooms have mixed age groupings. The Toddler Program (18 months to 3 years old) provides a first school experience that is safe and supportive introducing the Montessori classroom and materials in a small, intimate setting. The Primary Program (3-6 years old) encompasses the typical pre-school years and culminates with a Kindergarten Extended Day Program in the third year, providing a bridge to first grade. The Elementary Program (6 to 9 years old) has a strong foundation in Language Arts, Mathematics, Geometry, and Cultural Studies (Natural and Physical Sciences, Geography and History). The Elementary Program (9 to 12 years old) supports the shift to abstract thinking. The Middle School Program (12 to 14 years old) builds upon the foundations established on the elementary level by facilitating further exploration and questioning in academic areas.
