The Learning Center at Winston Preparatory School provides academic support, educational assistance, speech and language therapy and pragmatic skill development for general and special education students in grades k-12. Students are taught strategies that strengthen specific academic skills and develop self-awareness of cognitive strengths and weaknesses in order to improve school performance. The Center’s staff consists of reading specialists, special education professionals and speech-and-language pathologists from Winston’s full-time faculty. Instruction at the Center is tailored to each student’s individual needs and abilities. Every student’s learning profile is identified using in-depth analysis and interpretation of diagnostic data to determine the best course of instruction and to carefully match students and teachers. The Center offers parents the unique opportunity to enroll their child in individualized, one-on-one classes specifically designed for each student. Parents may also choose to enroll their child in small group classes to strengthen targeted academic, test-taking or social skills. Classes include reading comprehension, writing, mathematics, study skills and pragmatics. Students can enroll at any time throughout the fall and spring semesters. Instruction at the Learning Center can be continued and coordinated during the Summer Program. For further information, contact Peter Hill, Learning Center Director.
