Founded in 1928, the Rudolf Steiner School is the first Waldorf School in North America, one of 1,000 around the globe. The premise of Waldorf education is that teachers can help children and adolescents become free thinking and socially committed adults. The school’s motto is “hand, heart, and head: initiative in action, balance in feeling, and clarity in thought.” The lessons balance cognitive and emotional intelligence and physical activity. Lessons and assignments integrate academic work with fine arts and practical arts. Whether in science or math, language arts or history, sports or art, the aim is to inspire mastery, compassion and self-confidence. Because learning at this school is a joyous activity, Rudolf Steiner students carry a passion for it throughout their lives.
