The Primary School at Young World is designed to educate bright Kindergarten through fifth grade students in a safe, nurturing atmosphere. The Primary School’s challenging environment lays the groundwork for a solid foundation in learning by presenting children with a full curriculum and a wealth of stimulating, hands-on activities. Students are exposed to Mathematics, Science, History, Computers, Geography, French, the Fine Arts and the Language Arts, including reading, writing, literature, thinking, speaking and listening. Critical and creative thinking, and good work and study skills are promoted through the program. Classrooms are a place of productive activity as students work on age and ability-appropriate activities. The school’s experienced teaching staff exercises an interdisciplinary approach to learning by educating children both individually and in small groups. The school believes in developing a child physically as well as mentally and provides both indoor and outdoor physical education including yoga. A nature walk, featuring a butterfly garden, pond and Native North American plants provides opportunities for hands-on science in an outdoor learning area. YWDS also offers traditional preschool classes ages 2 through age 4 and a fully accredited Montessori classroom for ages 2.9 through age 6.
