Far Brook School is an independent, nonprofit, coeducational day school serving students from Nursery through Grade Eight. Far Brook’s unique interdisciplinary approach to learning offers children a classical liberal arts education at an elementary and middle school level. The faculty/student ratio is 1 to 6. Applications are accepted
for Nursery through Grade Seven. Children learn at Far Brook in a purposeful but unrushed atmosphere. They experience the security of belonging to a community whose life and work they find challenging and
engaging. At Far Brook, a child’s intelligence and creativity are honored. The program stimulates curiosity and initiative while fostering independence and developing the abilities to think, reflect, feel, and conceptualize. Teachers encourage students to approach problems in as many different ways as possible. A Far Brook education combines a strong academic program with a genuine interest in the development of the whole child and an emphasis on learning through the arts. The School was founded in 1948. In addition to its classrooms,
the 9-acre campus includes a technology lab, two science labs, a woodshop, meeting hall, gymnasium, library, playing fields, and an arts building incorporating an art studio with darkroom, two music classrooms, and four instrumental music rooms. The campus features a Schoolyard Wetlands Habitat, certified by the National Wildlife
Federation. While Far Brook’s predominant entry points are Nursery and Kindergarten, students also enter in Grades One through Seven to benefit from the School’s individualized attention, experiential learning, emphasis on critical thinking, and personalized guidance in applying to private high schools.
