Essex Youth Theater’s after-school program provides a fun and exciting theater experience. This unique program lets every child shine. 

You’ve seen acting programs that crowd a large group of kids on stage. Some children may get speaking roles, some may not. Some are featured, others are left in the background. Essex Youth Theater is different. 

Essex Youth Theater is a specialized program that uses custom-written scripts to guarantee an equal role for each student. Each class also incorporates acting exercises, theater games and improvisations that help students express their creativity and develop dramatic skills. Class size is kept small, with each child receiving lots of individual attention. And every semester culminates in a full-scale musical production. 

The atmosphere is supportive and nurturing, with an emphasis on self-esteem and fun learning. Self-confidence is the primary emphasis so every student can blossom. The teachers are professional directors specially trained in children’s theater. Skilled artists, they bring many years of experience, as well as a love and understanding of young actors, to every class. Each child is gently encouraged to explore their natural creativity while building theatrical skills. Finally, students experience the indescribable feeling of accomplishment through the joy of performing. 

Classes and performances held at The Studio Playhouse, 14 Alvin Place in Montclair, (right by The Acme on Valley Road). The big, beautiful Playhouse stage gives the students a performance to remember! 

There are classes for ages 5-6, 6-8, and 8-12. The Fall semester runs mid-September through mid-December.
