For more than 40 years, The Community Nursery School of Baldwin has been educating area children. The school offers four developmentally appropriate programs for children from 2 to 5 years old. Toddler Time, for 2 year olds, is a loosely structured program that features open play, an art project, snack time and story time, as well as songs and group games. The program also complements at-home potty training, so children do not have to be toilet trained before entering the class. The preschool programs, for 3 and 4 year olds, create a nurturing and positive atmosphere for these children who are essentially making their first steps into group life. The program for 3 year olds features age-appropriate activities like singing, finger plays, movement, dramatic play and puppetry. The program for 4 year olds and enrichment programs expand on this by including preparation for kindergarten, such as pre-readiness skills in reading, writing, math and science. All groups enjoy the use of a large, fenced-in playground. A unique aspect of the curriculum at Community Nursery School of Baldwin is that classes include sign language instruction.
