The aim at Ability School is to provide children in grades PreK - 8 with the “right start” - an excellent grasp of the basics, a love of learning and a strong desire to know about the world around them. This is accomplished through a teaching method that improves each individual’s ability to learn independently, helping the student to become self-sufficient and self-motivated. Their philosophy is simple - students master the basic tools very well, then use what they have learned. The reading program at Ability School is two-fold: phonics and high-volume reading. The students master the phonics basics, learning to decode or sound out unfamiliar words. On the volume-reading side the beginning reader learns reading through word recognition and reading simple books in abundance. This approach provides a balance between the natural impulse to learn to read and providing the tools to read more and more independently. The goal of the acclaimed math program is for the student to obtain a solid grasp of math basics, be able to think using those basics and develop a strong sense of discipline. Children are introduced to a curriculum rich with history, science, geography, spelling, music and art. A caring group of teachers and staff work closely to help each student reach his or her full potential. Ability School is a licensed Applied Scholastics® School. The school accepts enrollment throughout the year.
