In fall 2010, Aaron Academy celebrated the opening of the first of two phases of expanded facilities to serve the school’s growing student population. A new lobby, STEM Lab (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), Culinary Lab, Music Lab, Library and Art Lab are now open, with a new gymnasium and athletic spaces, additional classrooms, expanded Library/Information Technology lab, and performing arts spaces opening in fall 2011. Aaron Academy is a new middle and high school for students with special learning needs, focused on student strengths, as opposed to the traditional “deficit model.” The rigorous academic curriculum is engaging, and includes a high level of integration of technology, arts and literacy skills throughout. Instructional staff, including related service providers, work in collaboration in order to provide students with the most meaningful and applicable knowledge and skills. Student work focuses on solidifying core skills using high interest curricular materials, practicing social interaction skills in real world contexts and readying for college and career. Grades 6 through 9 are currently open, 10th grade will open in fall 2011, with the complete high school (12th grade) opening in the following two years.
