The Douglaston School of Music and Art (DSMA) offers a variety of courses for all ages and levels. Among the classes offered are: Private Instruction (piano, violin, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, flute, guitar and voice), Introduction to Music (ages 3-5 yrs.), Music Appreciation, Suzuki, Theory and First Steps in Music and Art (ages 18mos.-3 yrs.). The Introduction to Music program teaches children the basics of music in a game-type session. The program includes ear and rhythmic training, the basics of note reading, and introduces children to keyboard/piano and percussion instruments. DSMA also has Professional Division for students who want to become professional musicians. Classes are taught by highly educated, professional teachers. Courses offered are based on the same programs that are used by leading music institutions of the United States, and therefore meet their requirements. DSMA’s goal is to help expand the educational and cultural horizons of the community and give students an opportunity to express their talent and creativity.
