The days of children’s
summer vacation should be a time for them to play, to venture
forth in learning new skills and to grow. This concept is
the leading force at Camp Dark Waters, a camp for boys and
girls, ages 7-14, under Friends (Quaker) leadership. If your
child likes to have fun, make new friends, do fun stuff and
try new activities, Camp Dark Waters is perfect for him/her!
A friendly emphasis on physical, emotional and spiritual growth
is sought through simplicity of living— encouraging
independence, social responsibility and self-esteem. Campers
will experience such activities as swimming and canoeing;
awesome ropes course; cool campfire programs; arts & crafts;
archery; fishing and games; yummy eats and much more! Children
are encouraged to participate in activities with which they
are familiar, but also to try new fields of interest. At daily
assemblies, the counselors explain each activity and help
children choose. At Camp Dark Waters, your child will be well
taken care of. The counselor are mostly college-age men and
women who have come from all over the country and abroad.
A camper-to-counselor ratio of 4 to 1 and overall camper-to-staff
ratio of 3 to 1, provides each child with plenty of individual
attention. The Camp’s registered nurse monitors the
health of each camper, and a local physician is on call 24-hours
a day. The Camp and its facilities are ACA-approved. Celebrate
Camp Dark Waters 77th Anniversary this season, and give your
child a summer he’ll never forget!
