The
Children’s Orchestra Society has been teaching the language
of music since 1962. The Young Musician’s Summer Festival
is a fun 2-week day program (9am-3pm) in Manhasset designed
to provide a quality musical experience for talented young orchestral
musicians. The 2006 season dates are June 26-July 7 and a concert
on July 8. Each day begins with breakfast just before an exciting
orchestra rehearsal. Music workshops include classes in essential
music-making tools such as audition preparation, rhythmic precision,
instrument maintenance, instrument demonstrations, conducting
and sight-reading. Students enjoy lunch together and a daily
session of Arts Exploration—an opportunity to be creative
through varied activities in visual arts, writing, movement,
martial arts, and creating comic books. A special concert will
showcase the students’ talent to the community, friends
and family.Applicants must have at least one year of prior instruction
on their orchestral instrument. Children ages 7-13 may enroll
in violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students ages 11-13 may enroll
in flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, trombone,
tuba, and percussion. Private lessons and an extended day option
(5pm dismissal) are available for additional fees. Tuition:
$1,200. For more details and a summer application, please visit
