Summers at LREI offers creative, safe and engaging programs for children from June 23-August 1, 2008: Little Red Summer Camp (ages 3.5-10), LREI Institute (ages 10-14) and Musical Theater Workshop (ages 9-14 and 7-14). Children in Little Red Summer Camp select from a wide array of classes including soccer, puppetry, building, swimming, yoga, painting, basketball, cooking, photography, music and dance. Campers also participate in structured activities in age-specific home groups. Outdoor play takes place on LREI’s rubberized rooftop play area and local parks. Weekly field trips include New York Botanical Gardens, the Bronx Zoo, Liberty Science Center, and Central Park Zoo and Carousel. LREI Institute offers in-depth workshops in science, sports or creative disciplines. Students choose a two-week major and minor led by specialists and teachers from LREI. Topics include robotics, engineering, creative writing, moviemaking, visual art, karate and basketball. Musical Theater Workshop participants work on all aspects of staging a full musical production during a two-week session (two workshops offered). All programs are rooted in the progressive education tradition of LREI and encourage children to explore a range of activities and make new friends in the context of a supportive community.
