Life Bloom: Art Exhibition by Diana Durantel, Mamaroneck Public Library, 136 Prospect Ave., Mamaroneck, www.mamaronecklibrary.org. Born in communist Romania, Durantel says much of her youth was gray and dark— the city was dull and unappealing. This exhibition displays her affinity for strong colors, which became a sign of life. Big River, Broadway Theatre, 1 Broadway Plaza, Elmsford, www.broadwaytheatre.com. Huck Finn and other characters from Mark Twain’s classic novel tell the tale of a journey down the Mississippi River. Centuries of Progress: American World’s Fairs 1853-1982, Stamford Museum & Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT, (203)977-6538, www.stamfordmuseum.org. The telephone, ferris wheel and nylon stockings are just three of thousands of products, curiosities and inventions that made their debut at one of the 17 World’s Fairs that took place in America between 1853 and 1982.
