  • Return of the Touch Tunnel, Liberty Science Center, 222 Jersey City Boulevard, Jersey City, www.lsc.org. After a six-year absence, the Touch Tunnel is back at the Liberty Science. Opens 2/18.  
  • Winter Performances, The Attic Ensemble Theatre, 83 Wayne St., Jersey City, (201)413-9200, www.atticensemble.org. Upcoming Performances include: THE ATHLETE, PRINCESS, PIRATE, WELDER, DEEP-SEA DIVER CLUB. Discover the problems that go along with starting an “exclusive” club when you let your friends get too involved. 2/18 and 2/25, 1pm. CROWN. This moving and celebratory musical play uses a wide variety of hats for an exploration of black history and identity as seen through the eyes of a young black woman who has come down South to stay with her aunt after her brother is killed in Brooklyn. 2/17 and 2/24, 8pm. 2/23, 7pm. 2/26, 3pm.

  • Keep Your Cool, Mackay Park, The John T. Wright Arena, Englewood, (201)568-3133, www.mackayicearena.com. Start the year by discovering the cool programs at Mackay Park in Englewood. The impressive indoor skating center located inside the John T. Wright Arena provides plenty to do for the entire family. Enjoy public skating sessions, strengthen children’s hockey skills with programs like Stick Time and Learn to Skate, or tackle the basics in a Learn to Play Hockey Clinic. Programs are offered seven days a week. Adult Hockey sessions are also available.  
  • Liberty State Park, Jersey City, (800)540-0987. Liberty State Park is a green oasis in the middle of Metropolitan northern New Jersey. With the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as a spectacular backdrop, Liberty State Park is one of the state’s most dramatic parks. The park opens daily at 6 a.m. and offers a variety of recreational uses. Take advantage of the miles of walkways by walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading. Get fit with the par course that runs along Freedom Way. Bring your binoculars and look at the numerous species of birds which frequent the park. You may also bring your family and picnic at one of the playgrounds. There is always a nice breeze for flying a kite, or you may enjoy the waters by fishing or crabbing, boating or kayaking. Hop on a ferry and visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, or stop by and participate in one of our Natural or Historical Interpretive programs.  
  • Mangia Hoboken! - The Hoboken Food and Culture Tour, River Street, Hoboken, (201)653-1500, (800)838-3006. The tour will focus on family-owned businesses, where everything is still made by hand and you have a good chance of running into the owner. Two of Hoboken’s wholesale Italian bread bakeries will be featured, as well as a few establishments where fresh mozzarella cheese is handmade daily. There will also be stops at points of local historical interest such as the site of Frank Sinatra’s childhood home. Ongoing. Tours will depart Saturday afternoon from the Hoboken PATH station.
  • Ongoing Classes, Programs and Workshops, The Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA, 1301 Washington St., (201)963-4100. Families are invited to take advantage of another great season of activities, including morning playtime, toddler programs, swim lessons and more! Call for more detailed information.
  • Soccer Programs for Kids, Kiddie Soccer, (973)543-1197, www.kiddiesoccer.com. Add a little “kick” to your child’s spring season with some help from Kiddie Soccer. Specially designed for children ages 3½ - 6 years old, Kiddie Soccer is dedicated to providing its young participants with their first exposure to the exciting world of soccer in a fun-filled, non-competitive yet instructional learning environment. Kiddie Soccer offers programs throughout Bergen, Morris, Essex and Passaic Counties. Summer programs are underway, and programs for the fall are forming now.
