Teachers

Wed May 17 2800

Mrs. Fopiano. The name still brings a smile to my face. Mrs. Fopiano was my 5th grade teacher. She was stern with many rules and a no-nonsense approach, yet gentle and patient in every aspect of her teaching. I loved being in her class. I loved when she was proud of me for answering a question correctly or doing well on a test. And I hated the disappointment she felt when I didn't.

Teachers have such a special way of touching a child's life. I remember it from nearly 30 years ago and I see it now with my children's teachers. My kids respect their teachers and pine on their every word. These teachers have a tremendous responsibility and a wonderful opportunity to make a difference. Most of the teachers I know do a wonderful job.

As the school year comes to a close, I am thankful for these men and women who care enough to shape our children's future. And with fond memories, I would like to thank Mrs. Fopiano, wherever she may be, for being an inspiration to a shy little girl who felt tremendous confidence in the encouraging smile of her 5th grade teacher.
