Going Potty

Sun Nov 01 2009

This week I find myself reliving one of the toughest experiences of my adult life— potty training. Yup, I am at it again. I have bought the pull-ups, am fully stocked with lollipops to reward appropriate behavior, dragged the baby potty into the living room and have gotten quite accustomed to staring at a bare naked bottom running around all day.

It started a little rough. The first day was not filled with puddles, turds and tears as was the case with my son. Instead, we passed the day in potty limbo. My daughter decided to do pee-pee in the potty at 9:30am, followed by applause, dancing, hugs and kisses. Every half-hour, I gently reminded her to sit on the potty and try again. She would sit for a few minutes each time and NOTHING. The next day started much the same way. I was ready to abort mission and try again in a few months, when, in mid-morning, a breakthrough occurred.

We have now completed day three. Though I think that my daughter is obviously not completely potty trained, she is definitely understanding the concept. And the best part of all is that I haven't had to mop the floors yet!
