Been There...

Bea Frank is a 53-year-old first time grandma. She and her husband live in Southampton, New York, where they are currently collaborating on a screenplay, building a Web site and Skyping with their new grandchild. Frank also teaches spinning in her spare time and hopes to stay fit for more grandchildren, endless fun and maybe even a dog.

Grandma's Chanukmas

Wed Dec 01 2010

Chanukah comes early this year and I am not sure what to get Molly. I get all faklemped thinking, “Do I wrap some gifts for Chanukah and save some for the Christmas tree?” If I do, is that keeping the faith? I never discussed this with my daughter. She and my son-in-law celebrate both holidays with Molly.

Molly's other grandparents will be sharing Christmas and presents. Perhaps it is best to celebrate Chanukah with dreidels, menorahs and potato lakes. We can do it up and call it a day. The problem is, when Christmas comes, I feel I should participate out of respect to Molly's daddy, my son-in-law.

As a grandparent this is an interesting topic. I want to believe that the love my daughter and son-in-law have is a beautiful religion, and their heritage or how they were raised will be part of raising Molly. I am all for love in this fast-paced world. Thirty-five years ago parents and grandparents wanted you to “keep the faith.” Have we moved past that today to unite people of all faiths?

Happy holidays to PARENTGUIDE News and the readers. Feel the love!
