What You Want and What You Need
This morning a really, really, reeeeeaaaaalllly good friend of mine caught up with me on Facebook. Before the work day officialy began of course. Never let it be said that I would waste company time and/or money. Ha ha ha. Anyway, in the course of the conversation she made the observation that she was tired and cranky because she "only" got 7 hours of sleep last night. ONLY seven. Lemme tell ya...I was not able to sleep hardly a wink last night...and I would pretty much kill for a solid seven hours on ANY night. That's like a full weekend's worth of shut-eye to me. Oh well, everyone has their own way of doing things I guess...LOL. The bad thing about not sleeping, at least from what I have seen, is that extreme fatigue is not much of an ally when you are trying to win the war on better health and fitness. Not sleeping can also manage to turn a grown-ass-man into a cranky little brat. I sooooo didn't want to do ANYTHING today. The 2-mile walk to the train station seemed ENDLESS at 6am. The thought of having a salad for lunch was replaced by mental images of cheese fries and ice cream. And the idea of working on no sleep and then walking 2-miles home on the train....and THEN heading down to the basement for a workout....yeeeaaaah, weren't going over real big in my mind. During the Yankee run last weekend I heard someone yell out "Nut up or shut up!" Thought it was funny at the time...but I think of it at times when I am having a day like today.
I might not have WANTED to do anything...but so many of the things we face off with in life aren't even remotely about "want." As an adult it seems like more often than not we are stuck dealing with things that we NEED to do....rather than things we WANT to do. Might not be fair, but it is definitely true. So I grinned and beared it today folks. Got through my walks to AND from the train....which was good for close to 5 total miles (and roughly 800 calories I might add - Go ENDOMONDO - lol). I played it safe at the table today too...ignoring the ice cream and french fry fantasies...and instead stuck with a steady diet of egg whites, fresh fruit, salads, and yet another omlette for dinner. Told ya yesterday....creature of habit. And last but certainly never least, I got my hopefully ever-shrinking buns down to the basement to crank out three hundred (count em!) reps on the weights. Crawled upstairs afterwards and am soooo ready for bed now. Well it might not look like a positive, since there was a whole lot of whining and crying going on all day (mostly internal on my part). BUT that is just one way to look at things. For me, I can see it as a day where I really didn't have the drive to do much of anything....but I still got the job done when it counted. Still looking for that perfect spot to bust out the P90X, by the way. This weekend is looking like the perfect time and place to start. And now.....I have earned the right to crash out hard.
Good Night All...Have a Good One!

As I have said many times and I know to you it is BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. BUT the proof is in the pudding sort of speak, you need to get amble amount of sleep to help with weight loss. You can not keep running on empty expecting to make a difference. Your body needs the rest to catch up to itself. In your case, your body needs about a month of solid sleep to catch up to where you are and how you push yourself. I know you can succeed in all that you set out to accomplish but please do it in the right way for your body. And yes you do get very Cranky when you have little or no sleep, just like a 7 year old.... lol....

I agree with Lori. Sleep is key in staying healthy and shaping up so get some! Love you and I am so happy I don't have to be around you when you are cranky. I was there for the original 7 year old! LOL
