I think that anyone who has lost alot of weight will tell you that one of....if not THEE...coolest thing that happens to you is when you discover that you can do things that you were never able to do before. That can be something as simple as not needing a seat belt extension on a plane (so embarrassing to ask)...or being able to fit into the rides at an amusement park. To something more serious like being able to walk up a flight of stairs...or chase your child in the yard...without needing an oxygen mask afterwards. Well I can attest to the fact that all of those things are pretty damn cool...and today I got to do something that was ALSO pretty damn cool, thank you very much. For the second straight year I was honored and privileged to take part in the Damon Runyon 5K for Cancer Research. Did I fail to mention that it took place INSIDE Yankee Stadium? Told ya it was pretty damn cool. Ha ha ha. The run starts off through the halls of the stadium itself, down through the tunnels, then out onto the field. I actually got to jog two laps around the entire field (they don't let you on the grass unfortunately). They do however, put your image on the big screen while you run AND they also allow your family to sit in the stands behind home plate while you do your laps. So with Lori and Meghan cheering me on, I got to live out a dream. I'll obviously never be in the major leagues the way alot of us dreamed we would as kids. But how many people can actually say that they got to run around the field at Yankee Stadium?

An excellent experience with 4,000 select participants supporting a cause with a 3.2 mile run in the summer sun. Some good friends included in that group, by the way. It isn't lost on me that if I never began this journey of mine, I wouldn't have gotten to live that dream. It takes alot out of you physically, trust me. But beyond that, even if I was allowed to just walk it...I never would have had the courage to do it at 400 pounds...or even at 300 pounds. I did it today though...I have the medal to prove it. And my trainer will be happy to know that I ran the entire course. No breaks...no walking...no stopping to take pictures. The perfect way to spend my Sunday morning. Oh, and just so you know. Even though I probably earned the right to just sit back and enjoy the rest of my day, I chose to keep on pushing. After running around Queens all afternoon I came home and made sure to get myself down to the man cave before turning in. Cranked out a quick round with the cards...followed by 100 reps on the weights. Not a workout that will get in any magazines, but it was a workout when I didn't have to..and that is all that matters. So now I am sitting here reflecting on a great weekend. A weekend that flew by in the blink of an eye. But still a great weekend. And now it is time to crash. Some much-needed and hard earned sleep awaits. The alarm rings early for me and the scale is always waiting. Hope you had a good weekend too.

Thanks for checkin in...more tomorrow!
