If there is one weapon in my personal arsenal that I am probably not using enough in my ongoing weight loss battle these days (and it is an ongoing BATTLE, believe me), in my own humble opinion it is running. My trusty trainer and friend Jonathan has always told me that "if exercise is a tool, then running is your sledgehammer." From personal experience I can't say that I disagree. As difficult as it seems to get through some days, I don't know if there is anything that I have benefitted from more, or felt better from personally, than a good, long run. Now I use the term "RUN" loosely. With me it is more like a moderate jog...but it's faster than walking...so you get the idea here. Last summer when I was dropping the bulk of my weight, a big part of why that happened so quickly and efficiently is because I made sure to drag my weary old bones out of bed bright and early every morning before work to go for a run. Some mornings it was only a mile. Other mornings it was as many as three or four. But it was the way I started every day. An excellent way to get my blood pumping and kick-start my metabolism for the rest of the day. A great way to "get my internal furnace burning" Jonathan would say. That is definitely a missing piece the puzzle for me these days. At least for now I manage to get in my 2-mile walks to the train every day. But if I want to really knock the weight off...what I need is a sledghammer. I still get my feet pounding the pavement from time to time.

it's definitely not as consistent as I need it to be to make a real difference. I went out for a run on Saturday morning...and then again tonight when I first got home from work. Feeling really good too (followed it up with a healthy dinner, two reruns of NCIS and a session of cardio and weights in the man cave)...but I really think that consistency is the key for me here. The GOOD thing at least is that while a lot of people I know absolutely HATE to jog, I actually enjoy it. I find that it is a great way to clear your head while getting a fantastic cardio workout. The problem for me...like with anything else these days...is finding the time to keep up with it on a consistent basis. But this blog isn't about making excuses.... it is about defying odds and getting the job done no matter what. the cost. I am definitely up for that challenge. Tomorrow I will be home from work earlier than usual, which means more time to work out tomorrow night, which hopefully will mean another good, solid jog. As the Indians' manager says in Major League, if you do it again today that will be two in a row. That is called a winning streak...it's been known to happen." Ha ha ha. Sarcastic as hell....but a point well taken. And since tomorrow will be an earlier night for me in general, I am thinking about FINALLY breaking out the P90X...it is way overdue. Wish me luck!!!

Until we meet again tomorrow...
