Before I get started here, let me first say how sorry I am for missing my regular daily post yesterday. I was out of the house first thing in the morning, ran around all day long and stayed at a friend's house last night. A friend with no internet access, unfortunately. Not much of an excuse, I know. But it's the truth. I will do my best to make sure that it doesn't happen again. Hope you didn't miss me too much...lol. I have to say this this was somewhat of a conflicting weekend for me. From a personal standpoint it was great...and I will get to why in a minute. From a "healthier new me" standpoint...it was kind of a rough one. On the positive tip, I had two GREAT and special events happen this weekend. The first, is that I got to celebrate the milestone birthday of one of my oldest and dearest friends. Mr. Charles Bromley Jr to the world...Sid to me and our little crew...turned the big 4-0 on Saturday, August 20. I am proud to say that I have known Charlie/Sid since the first grade. And not like we were in the same class, maybe....then we ran into each other in High School.....and I see him once in awhile in the neighborhood now that we are adults kinda friends either. We have genuinely been hanging out together for more than 30 years now...damn! From our days roaming the halls of P.S. 70 to our adventures on the field and in the park at P.S. 10. From the Bernie Gilroy tournaments to the street football games on 43rd Street to bangin tequila and buds together in my drinkin days to many, many drunken laughs in Purcells...
... and anywhere else the days and nights would take us. From Kimba and Bucky (R.I.P to the best dogs ever!) to Mr. Morelli and the Big Apple Games (long live the Barbarians!) to Young Yong and Q Ha (you had to be there for that one) to the World Wrestling Federation days to a million other little things over the past 3 or more decades...Happy Birthday my brother from another mother...I love ya! We have watched each other grow from kids to teens to men. We saw each other get married and become parents...and now we get to watch our kids grow up together. I am proud to call you my friend and I am glad that we are together for another year. A special thanks to his wife Gisela too....for putting together one HELL of a party. We dined like kings and laughed like fools at the Empire Steak House on West 52nd Street in Manhattan. Let me tell you, somewhere out there is one big empty pasture, because there were 25 or so of us in a private room last night, getting served the BIGGEST steaks I have ever seen. Definitely great eatin...I highly recommend the place if you are in the mood and have some extra money for a night out. NOT the best place for someone watching his girlish figure...which was part of the "roughness" of my weekend. Definitely a special night though. Not just because of the party either. While Lori and I were running around all day getting things done at home and getting ready for Sid's party, my amazing daughter Meghan was upstate with my in-laws.
They have a nice little summer place on Lake Carmel where Meg gets to hang with some of her cousins from time to time. Yesterday they had a family day up there with alot of different competitions on the lake...and my AWESOME little girl came home with a silver medal for swimming! WHOOOOO HOOOOOO...I am so proud of her! I love to swim, always have. BUT...could I do it on a dark, murky lake...with a crowd of people around yelling and screaming? Ummmm....no way. Meg is so much more fearless than I ever was though. She was so happy to show off her medal to us...even got to hold it side by side with my Warrior Dash medal from last week. We Rock!!! LOL. Congrats my angel...you are truly incredible!!! Wrapped up the weekend with a barbecue at my aunt and uncle's in Edison, NJ today. Great place to be...good food, good fun, in-ground pool and great people. After only finishing about half of my texas-sized steak at the party last night, I stuck to salads, fruit and some grilled chicken today. But as anyone on a diet will tell you...it's not always just about your choices. It is also about your portion size...and I definitely think I went overboard today. Luckily tomorrow is another day...and as I said most of last week...it is time for some changes. Looking forward to tomorrow bringing a fresh start to my journey again. New meals and P90X on the horizon. I will keep you posted. And belated birthday wishes as well to my brother-in-law, Tommy Bannon (also on the 20th). Best wishes always!!!
Thanks for checkin in...more tomorrow!
