Back to Basics
The Allman Brothers have always been one of my favorite bands. If you know them and like em, awesome. If you don't know em, give them a listen. Great southern rock band. One of the greatest of all time if you ask me. I highly recommend them. Anyway, they have a song called "Back Where it All Begins" that has always struck a chord with me, so to speak. It's about getting yourself back to the place where you started, no matter what happens. Getting back to square one. Maybe it's also about not forgetting where you came from....and what it took to get you to your current place in life, both good and bad. Well the reason I am mentioning that is because that is the place I am trying to take myself right now. I'm going "back where it all begins." For me that means getting back to square one and starting all over again. Over the past few months, leading up to the end of 2011, I let alot of things get to me. Personal stuff that would get to anyone I think. Parents getting sick, cars getting wrecked, bill collectors at your neck, getting torn apart by someone you used to really look up to, fun stuff like that. Unfortunately, I did the one thing I SWORE I would never do again. I lost my focus. After spending almost two years changing my eating and exercise habits, I let things get to me and I fell back into some dangerous old patterns. I found this out the hard way when I stepped on the scale this morning for the first time in months.
Ewwwwww, let's just say it wasn't pretty. And now the time for talk is officially over. It's time to get the ship back on course. The best way for me to do that is to go back to the beginning. Almost exactly two years ago when I finally got my head on straight, I did it with a simple plan. Set a goal for myself, count my calories (no more than 2,000 a day, which is all the body needs folks), write down everything I eat for the day, exercise (put out more than you take in as my trainer would say), and of course, share all my experiences with you fine folks. It worked once. I am guessing it will work again. So I will be weighing myself first thing every Monday morning and recording the results here in this weekly blog. Might as well keep myself honest so you can feel like you are going along on this ride with me, right? My birthday seems like as good a place as any to shoot for. So that is the goal. I've had a rough time getting started so far as the new year has gotten underway. But it's time to stop fooling around now. I know I have it in me to do this, because well, I've done it. My trainer would say there is no middle ground. You are either doing it or you're not. I'm doing it. Wish me luck. See you back here next Monday for my first weigh in!
