A New Chapter
Have you ever seen the movie Anchorman? It is a comedy starring Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy, the clueless and self-centered anchor of an off the wall network news team. It is stupid, juvenile, pointless and utterly ridiculous. It also stars a great cast of comedic actors, is totally hilarious...and is one of my favorite movies (both to watch and to quote). Well in one scene Will Ferrell's character jumps into a bear pit to save the woman he loves. Upon realizing how big the bears actually are, he says to her, "I immediately regret this decision." Yeeeeeaaaaah....I have to say I can relate to that now. I was thinking the same thing myself about an hour ago when I officially kicked off day ONE of P90X. For those of you who don't know...P90X is a carefully designed full body workout system. The "90" refers to the 90 consecutive days you are asked to commit to the program. The "X" is for extreme...and after just one day I can tell you they hit the mark on that one. The "P" you ask? Ummmmmm......performance maybe? Sorry...I am still a little sore and didn't know there was going to be a test on this...lol. Anyway, with my 40th birthday, the Yankee Stadium run and the Warrior Dash all in my rear view mirror now, I was afraid that I would start to lose my focus when it came to working out and eating right. Like if there's nothing to push for...then maybe you stop pushing altogether eventually? Probably not...but if you know where I have been in my life, you know that I never, ever want to go back. So I needed a new challenge...something that would keep me moving, keep me interested and keep me excited. I was pretty sure since the first day I saw the infommercial on TV that P90X would be exactly what I was looking for.
I know people who have done it and everyone so far unanimously agrees that it give you the ultimate challenge physically....followed by the ultimate results. I definitely wanted in. Not only that, but I foolishly thought it would be a piece of cake for me (or in my case...a piece of non-fat frozen yogurt or something - lol). So hear I am, actually ASKING for this thing...certain that I would overcome it like I have everthing else that has been put in my way on this journey of mine so far. Well...all that arrogance and bravado went out the window earlier tonight. Just like it did for Ron Burgundy, I found out first hand that everything is different when you're actually IN the bear pit. Ha ha ha. I got through my first session stretched, sweaty and aching...but alive to tell the tale. VERY happy that I am doing this in the priivacy of my own man cave where no one can see me though...because it is NOT pretty. I do think it is exactly what I need right now...and I can't wait to see where I am 89 days from now. I have a feeling that I have stumbled upon another life-changing personal milestone, I really do. And the good news? According to the calendar, my 90 days will be up JUST in time for me to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner! ha ha ha ha. Just kidding. Well on top of jumping into the P90X bear pit tonight...I got 5 miles of walking under my belt today too. What I DIDN'T get in the last day or so however...is sleep. Time for me to crash out now folks. This old body of mine needs time to recharge...and the clock goes off early for me nowadays. Thanks again to Barbara and Meghan for getting me P90X for my birthday...I will definitely put it to good use!!!
