My Husband
Not long ago, I told my son Cross (Crew's older brother): Heroes aren't glamorous people who sell their names for money. They aren't the handsome actors who make movies or championship athletes who score with one second left to win the game. Heroes are simply everyday people who do extraordinary things. Heroes are teachers who use their skills to teach children whom no one ever thought could learn. Heroes are those trying to find cures for diseases. Heroes are all that, but for me it is simply stated. To me, a hero is your stepdad.
As you know my story about Crew and autism, now I want to tell you the reason for Crew's amazing future, my children's stepdad, my husband, Jim. When Crew and Jim got together, there was an instant connection. Jim, who never heard of autism before, took Crew to live on a farm and taught him a whole new life. Jim has a true love for Crew and sees no boundaries. Jim has been a complete cornerstone by taking on our family's care, supporting us and fighting every battle we come up against. He is a vital part in Crew's education and will fight for him till the end.
Jim took on all of this without an ounce of hesitation or a complaint. He always sees the potential in Crew, even when I am blinded by his disability. I honestly believe that Jim and Crew's connection has made our life complete. I told Cross that day, now the three of us will never stop looking for Crew's voice.
